Spring Adventures Begin
Grace Pelletier, Program Manager Londonderry, NH
Marybeth is welcoming the spring season with curiosity and hands-on exploration as a new member of the SEE Science Center in Manchester. A natural hands-on learner, Marybeth thrives in environments where she can interact directly with what’s around her, making a place where everything is up for grabs the perfect match for her interests and learning style.
During her visit, Marybeth especially enjoyed a demonstration on static electricity. Using her hands to engage with the exhibit, she experienced static electricity firsthand. The interactive setup allowed her to fully explore the demonstration rather than simply observe, making the experience both engaging and meaningful.
With access to a wide variety of exhibits designed for touch, experimentation, and discovery, Marybeth’s membership at the SEE Science Center offers endless opportunities for active participation. This hands-on environment supports her strengths and encourages continued learning through exploration. Spring is off to a great start, and Marybeth is already looking forward to many more visits filled with discovery and new experiences.

Out of this World

Dave didn’t miss a moment as the Artemis astronauts prepared to return to Earth. Wearing his NASA t‑shirt, he followed the coverage closely and enjoyed being part of such an important moment in the history of space exploration. From updates on the screen to the mission's final stages, Dave was tuned in.
Watching the astronauts come home was less about the headlines and more about the experience itself. It was an opportunity to witness history in the making, and Dave was excited to be a part of it, NASA shirt and all.

Since joining the Self-Direction program in 2019, Christine's independence, creativity, and personal interests have grown. She has always had a strong passion for painting, decorating, and arts and crafts. Christine has been attending classes at E & E Creations in Plattsburgh. She has taken both day and evening painting classes and even assisted with painting the studio’s window display. Christine consistently shows pride in her artwork and expresses great joy when creating new pieces.
At home, Christine has set up a dedicated art corner in her apartment, where she paints using the techniques she learns in class. She puts thoughtful consideration into each piece she creates, often choosing colors and themes based on her family members’ preferences. Her artwork has become a meaningful holiday tradition, as she gifts her creations to her five siblings, who look forward to and cherish her handmade presents. Christine is very proud of both her talents and the happiness her artwork brings to others.
In addition to her artistic pursuits, Christine participates in horse lessons, which she deeply enjoys.
She is interested in learning about horse-related care and has formed positive bonds with the horses she rides. During trail rides, she frequently observes beautiful landscapes and is delighted whenever she spots butterflies, one of her favorite things to see. These experiences bring her peace, happiness, and a strong sense of connection with nature.
Overall, Christine continues to thrive in the Self-Direction program. She has built confidence in her skills, expanded her interests, and developed meaningful routines that support her creativity and personal growth.

The Big Game
Tina Alexander, Director of Residential Services
Peggy’s Super Bowl party was the kind of gathering that reminds everyone why watching the big game is about more than just football. From the moment her friends arrived, it was clear that she had created a warm, welcoming space where excitement, laughter, and togetherness took center stage.
The food table quickly became a popular gathering spot. Peggy made sure there was something for everyone, setting out a variety of game-day favorites that guests could enjoy throughout the night. Whether guests were grabbing a quick bite before kickoff or returning for seconds during halftime, the spread kept the energy up and the mood relaxed.
By the end of the night, the final score mattered less than the memories made. Peggy’s Super Bowl party was a success, not because everything was perfect, but because it felt genuine with good food, good conversation, and a host who truly enjoyed bringing people together. The evening was one her friends will remember long after the season has ended.

Birding & Art
Earl Cookson, Program Manager
Lacine Leighton is someone who brings creativity, warmth, and a deep appreciation for nature to everyone around her. Two of her greatest passions are art and birds, and she finds joy in both every single day.
Lacine loves spending time watching the birds from her chair or while sitting out on the deck overlooking the pond. With her Audubon book on Northeastern birds close at hand, she carefully identifies each bird she sees, turning every moment into a learning experience. She also enjoys caring for the birds by buying bird seed and suet blocks to help keep them well-fed. Watching and feeding the birds around Kennebago is something that truly makes her happy.
Lacine’s other great passion is art. She attends an art program where she expresses herself through painting, coloring, and sculpting. Her artwork includes landscapes, people, birds, fireworks, and beloved Disney characters. One especially meaningful piece is a Disney Stitch painting she created for her roommate as a welcome-home gift after a long trip. Missing her roommate inspired the heartfelt painting, making it even more special.
Lacine proudly sells her artwork through a gallery in her day program. She has sold several pieces and considers herself an independent artist. The paintings she chooses not to sell are brought back home, where they are displayed in the living room for everyone to enjoy.
Through her love of nature and her artistic talent, Lacine brings beauty, creativity, and joy to her community. We are lucky to have such an inspiring artist and bird lover among us!
