Volunteer Appreciation
Lisa Turner, Associate Director
Tina recently attended not one, but two volunteer appreciation functions, each celebrating the dedication and generosity of those who give their time to support the community. At both events, Tina’s positive spirit shone brightly. During one introduction, she was affectionately described as “the happiest person they know,” a title that perfectly reflects the warmth, enthusiasm, and kindness she brings to every shift she attends.
One of the evenings held special significance for Tina, as she was honored with an award recognizing the completion of 1,000 volunteer hours! This remarkable milestone speaks volumes about her long-term commitment and selfless service. Tina accepted the award with gratitude and cheering. Her achievement serves as an inspiration to fellow volunteers and a powerful reminder of the lasting impact one person’s dedication can make.

Family Time

Chelly had been looking forward to seeing her dad since November for their special Mother’s Day tradition. Together, they traveled to the VA Cemetery in Winchendon to visit her mother’s grave. On the way, Chelly picked out fresh flowers in her mom’s favorite colors of blue and orange. She carefully cut the flowers, placed them into a provided pot, watered them, and carried them to the gravesite. Chelly and her dad placed the flowers beside the headstone, while her dad added his flowers to the opposite side.
Chelly and her dad spent time talking in front of the grave, sharing memories from her childhood. Chelly laughed while listening to her dad tell staff funny stories about her and her sister being mischievous as children. Afterward, they went inside to view a photograph of Chelly’s uncle receiving a military award, which Chelly truly enjoyed seeing.
Following their visit, everyone headed to Kimball Farm to celebrate her dad’s annual return from Florida. Chelly enjoyed fresh white fish, scallops, and coleslaw while spending quality time with her dad and sharing stories together. Before saying goodbye, Chelly and her dad treated themselves to lactose-free coffee Oreo ice cream, which Chelly described as “pure heaven.”

Celebration

In April, Seanbruce and his family got together for his niece’s birthday, and it was a really nice time. Everyone came out in good spirits, there was plenty of food and snacks to go around, and the vibe was just fun and relaxed. The highlight, of course, was the birthday cake.
There were a lot of laughs, some thoughtful gifts, and lots of pictures taken to remember the day. Overall, it was just a great celebration with family and friends.

Confidence, Independence, and Community Connections
Chelsea Tremblay, Fiscal Intermediary Coordinator
Since 2017, Residential Resources has had the privilege of supporting Tyler on his journey toward greater independence and personal growth. Over the years, we have watched him discover new interests, build meaningful relationships, and gain confidence in himself. Recently, Tyler shared his perspective on how these services have shaped his life, highlighting the impact of consistent, person‑centered support.
When asked how his independence and self‑esteem have changed since beginning services, Tyler didn’t hesitate. His confidence, he said, has “definitely improved.” He credits much of that growth to the way his DSPs embrace his ideas and make him feel valued. “It feels really good to be accepted,” he shared.
Tyler explained that having consistent support helps him stay motivated and maintain structure in his day‑to‑day life. He looks forward to his staff visiting and knows he can count on them for activities that are both fun and meaningful.
His relationship with his DSPs is something he speaks about with pride. “They work well together, they treat me well, they listen to me and really seem to care about my well‑being,” he said. Their encouragement has helped him step more confidently into his community. Together, they enjoy bowling, shopping, and going to the movies, and they already have a full list of ideas for the summer ahead.
For others considering Community Habilitation Services, Tyler’s message is simple: go for it. “It can help people gain confidence, gain trust in others, be able to get out in their communities more, and learn to be open to new ideas,” he said.
Speaking with Tyler highlights the positive impact individualized support can have. Everyone deserves to feel accepted, heard, and empowered. Tyler’s story shows that it’s never too late to learn new skills, build connections, and discover new possibilities.

First Signs of Summer
Holli Brown, Program Manager Westbrook, ME
Kathy has been enjoying the first signs of summer in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, recently. She enjoyed the pizza and pier fries while visiting with other people in the park and at the beach. Kathy has also been enjoying visits with her family, regular trips to her local Dunkin, and strolling around her neighborhood talking with her neighbors.
Kathy is looking forward to sun, fun, and outdoor activities with long scenic rides along the beautiful Maine coast. If you see Kathy while visiting the beach this summer, be sure to reply to Kathy’s cheerful “Good Morning, Dear!” greetings that she offers to everyone she meets. It is shaping up to be a wonderful summer, and Kathy is taking in every moment with enthusiasm.
