Hooked on Fun 🎣

Sarah King, Director of Residential Services
Westbrook, ME

There are some days that leave you smiling long after they are over, and this year's Residential Resources Annual Fishing Trip out of Seabrook, New Hampshire was definitely one of them!

Our Maine attendees were incredibly grateful to Lisa Houde and Tina Alexander for organizing such a fantastic day on the water. From the beautiful weather to the excitement of reeling in fish, every detail seemed to come together perfectly, creating memories that will last for years to come.

While there were plenty of fish tales to tell, one of the highlights of the day belonged to Chris. Chris hadn't been fishing in many, many years and arrived feeling more than a little apprehensive about picking up a fishing pole. At first, he was content to watch as others cast their lines and celebrated their catches. But with some encouragement, Chris decided to give it a try. And what happened next can only be described as a fishing success story!

After just a few minutes, Chris was hooked, not only on fishing, but on catching fish. One fish turned into two, then three, four, and finally an unbelievable five fish by the end of the trip. Chris could hardly believe it himself! Beaming with pride, he shared that the fishing trip now ranks among the best days he's ever had. Even better, the experience sparked new enthusiasm for trying new activities. Chris is already planning future group outings so that the fun and friendships can continue long after the fishing poles have been packed away.

Sometimes the best adventures begin with a little encouragement, great friends, and a willingness to try something new.

Track and Field

Patrice Aguda-Brown, Home Provider
Keene, NH

Gregg competed in the UNH Special Olympics Games on June 12th. Although it was hot, Gregg did not give up. He participated in three events: javelin throw, 100-meter run, and 400-meter walk. He placed in all three events. You can see in the photo that his name was on the sign! What a champ!

Gregg demonstrated tremendous determination and sportsmanship throughout the competition. Despite the challenging heat and the demands of a full day of events, Gregg remained focused and gave his best effort in each competition. Spending the night in the dorms with his teammates also provided an opportunity to build relationships, strengthen team connections, and experience the excitement of being part of a larger athletic community.

Gregg took great pride in his accomplishments and had every reason to celebrate his success. His hard work, positive attitude, and willingness to push through challenges paid off as he earned a place in all three events. It was a memorable experience that highlighted both his athletic abilities and his resilience, making the day one he can look back on with pride.

Planes, Picnics, and a Patriotic Cake

If you've spent any time with Larry, you know that he has a knack for turning an ordinary day into an adventure. This summer has been no exception. He's been making the most of the beautiful weather by combining some of his favorite things: scenic drives, great picnic spots, fascinating transportation, and spending time with friends.

One of Larry's favorite ways to enjoy a sunny day is to pack a delicious lunch and head out on the road in search of a picturesque destination. This summer, he's enjoyed picnics at several beautiful New England locations, including Winnekenni Castle, Pierce Island, and Crawford Notch. For Larry, the journey is often just as enjoyable as the destination, especially when it leads to stunning views and a peaceful place to relax outdoors.

A true transportation enthusiast, Larry is always on the lookout for exciting places where he can watch different modes of transportation in action. One of his favorite recent adventures took him to Boston, where he visited a waterfront park that offered the perfect combination of scenery and activity. There, he spent time watching airplanes take off and land at Logan Airport while also enjoying views of boats traveling to and from Castle Island. For Larry, it doesn't get much better than a beautiful day paired with plenty of things that move!

Summer wouldn't be complete without fireworks, and Larry eagerly looks forward to every opportunity to see them. While attending the Fourth of July fireworks display, he was especially impressed by the grand finale, which inspired him to bake a red, white, and blue cake to share with friends.

Whether he's exploring new destinations, spotting planes and boats, or spreading a little sweetness, Larry's enthusiasm and kindness make every season brighter. Here's to many more journeys, picnics, transportation sightings, and grand finales for Larry!

Bella Takes Center Stage

Corrina Charland, Fiscal Intermediary Coordinator
Plattsburgh, NY

Bella recently took center stage in a production of Frozen, where she impressed audiences with her confidence, talent, and dedication. Performing in front of a crowd can be a challenge, but Bella rose to the occasion and delivered a memorable performance.

What makes Bella's accomplishment even more remarkable is her commitment behind the scenes. She had memorized the entire play and was prepared to help fellow performers if they forgot their lines. Her teamwork, preparation, and support for others helped contribute to the success of the production.

Bella’s passion for drama continues to grow, and she is excited to further develop her skills at a drama camp this summer. With her enthusiasm, hard work, and love for the performing arts, there is no doubt that Bella has a bright future ahead on the stage.

Congratulations, Bella, on your outstanding performance and dedication to the arts! We look forward to seeing what you accomplish next.

Summer’s Simple Joys

Lydia Caron, Operations Specialist
Londonderry, NH

While many people spend summer racing from one activity to the next, Rhonda has mastered the art of keeping things cool. Whether she’s relaxing with a word search, bringing colorful creations to life in her latest coloring book, or enjoying the shade from her porch, she’s found plenty of ways to unwind without breaking a sweat.

In fact, you could say Rhonda has been winging it this summer, but only because she’s been surrounded by birds! Her porch has become a favorite gathering spot for feathered visitors thanks to an impressive collection of bird feeders that attract everything from finches and cardinals to curious blue jays. Of course, there’s also one determined squirrel who keeps trying to squirrel away a snack or two, adding a little excitement to the daily bird-watching show.

Beyond her relaxing hobbies, Rhonda has spent much of her summer making a difference in the community. She generously volunteers her time by giving rides to elderly neighbors, delivering food to those in need, and lending a helping hand wherever it’s needed most. Her kindness has helped countless people stay connected and supported.

When she’s not volunteering or enjoying her porch-side wildlife adventures, Rhonda has been cheering on teams in the World Cup, adding a little international excitement to her laid-back summer routine. Between helping others, solving puzzles, watching birds, and following the action on the field, Rhonda has truly scored a winning summer.
