Planes, Trains, and…RV's

Lisa Turner, Associate Director
Londonderry, NH

Davis always looks forward to a good getaway. He has flown and driven to many places that some people only see on television. Davis knows people in so many different states, which allows him to visit his friends and see a ton of cool places. When he went on his first airplane trip, he saw the Grand Canyon, a magical place to see. He has seen National Parks, including the Casa Grande Ruins National Park in Arizona. It was huge!!! He has taken road trips to West Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. He has eaten at delicious places all around, like the Golden Eagle Diner, which is known for its pastry display and, of course, how delicious those pastries are!

Davis would love to add more places to his list of vacations and wants to do so in an RV! He went to an RV show and went in just about every one open to tours. He picked out the biggest one he could find and decided that’s the one he wants to get for traveling. He has spots picked out across the country that he would love to visit, but is having a hard time deciding which one he wants to visit first! If you have any suggestions, let him know. He’s always up for a good adventure.

What did you do for Green Up Keene 2025?

On Friday, Sharon and I went to the clinic for one of my appointments, grabbed a coffee, and then looked at the daffodils in Ashuelot River Park. We started talking about how beautiful the flowers are in spring. Then we noticed some litter. Why do people litter?

Sharon and I talked about possible reasons why people litter. Sometimes, because there aren't enough trash cans nearby, people often find it unsanitary or inconvenient to carry their trash with them until they stumble upon a trash can. Sometimes, people might litter if the area that they are in is already littered, and sometimes, people might think it is easier just to throw it out the car window or throw the piece of trash on the ground. If people see other trash on the ground, they might think it is ok to do the same. People might not be as quick to litter in their own neighborhood but might litter in areas that they don't feel like they are part of. Some people might litter because they are unaware of what they are doing to their town or city streets and parks. Or maybe they do it just because it is what they have always done (like a bad habit), or maybe that's how they were brought up, maybe their family or relatives littered and didn't act like they cared about their streets and parks.

We decided that we can’t control what everyone else does, but we can make a small difference in Keene if we pick up some litter and agree not to litter.

I remembered that there was a lot of litter after the snow melted on the side of the street near Yankee Lanes, where I go bowling on Tuesdays with my friends. So, Sharon and I talked about going over there and picking up some of it. Sharon had a couple of trash bags and some gloves in her van. Well, guess what....some litter turned into all of the litter on just a small stretch of Park Avenue in Keene! We were only there for about half an hour, and I picked up a trash bag of paper, paper plates, Dunkin cups, empty cigarette packs, and a couple of voter signs. I couldn't believe how much I picked up in such a short time. It really didn't set me back too much on my day. I was still able to do other things that I wanted to do.

The next day was Green Up Day in Keene. I felt really good that I had done something for Green Up Day, even though I didn’t do it on Saturday. All I can say is, please don’t litter on the city streets and parks, hold onto your trash until you come to a trash can and if you see trash, and you have gloves on, pick it up, if it’s not something dangerous like a sharp piece of glass or a needle. I didn’t see any broken glass or any needles, but I know both are out there.

Big Move: New Digs, Bumper Cars, and a Whole Lot of Faith

Earl Cookson, Program Manager
Westbrook, ME

Change is in the air—and for James, it smells like fresh paint, new furniture, and the unmistakable scent of Subway sandwiches. He is moving into a new two-bedroom apartment, and he’s not doing it alone. His best friend Joe is coming along too, making this cozy, comfortable space feel even more like home.

The new apartment is more than just a change of address—it’s a fresh chapter. James is especially excited about his new room, which is about to get a serious upgrade. We’re talking a new bed frame, new dressers, a new TV, and the crown jewel of relaxation: a brand-new easy chair. If comfort were a sport, James would be going for gold!

But life isn’t just about furniture and floor plans. Last September, James took a trip to Funtown—a name that pretty much guarantees a good time. He loaded up on food, dominated the bumper cars, and cruised around the track like a pro. The day ended with a meal at Subway. It was a perfect day for James.

Beyond the fun and the furniture, there’s a deeper part of James' life that keeps him grounded: his faith. James is a devoted Christian who loves attending the Rock Church every Sunday with Joe. The music lifts his spirit, and the message speaks to his heart. It’s not just a routine—it’s a cornerstone of his life. The church even gave him a special Bible, which he treasures and keeps close at all times.

So, here’s to James —embracing new beginnings, cherishing old friendships, and living life with joy, faith, and maybe just a little too much excitement for bumper cars. His journey is a reminder that home is more than a place—it’s where your heart, best friend, and easy chair are.

Easter with John

Maggie Kelleher, Home Care Provider
Keene, NH

In preparation for Easter, John and I painted Easter eggs at home. John also participated in a couple of Easter egg hunts with my nieces and nephews. After everyone found their eggs, they sat around the table and traded some of the items that they found. John liked finding the eggs that had coins inside. Also, he loved getting a package of Peeps in his Easter basket. In addition to the fun and games, John contributed to the Easter dinner by helping to prepare mac and cheese, which he brought to a friend's house along with the Peeps. He put them both on the table to share with everyone. John enjoyed Easter weekend.

Style and Celebration

On April 27, Kathy kicked off a fun day by heading to a birthday party at Highland Ave. Before the celebration, she stopped by the salon for a fresh haircut—check out the before-and-after photos! With her new look, Kathy had a fantastic time connecting with friends and soaking up all the fun. It was definitely one of the most memorable moments of spring so far.

Adding to the season’s warmth, Kathy received a heartwarming visit from her sister on Mother’s Day. Their time together was filled with conversation and cherished memories. It's been a lovely couple of months for Kathy—full of good company, self-care, and memorable moments.
