Speed Racer

Lisa Pimpare, Program Manager
Westbrook, ME

Michelle loves to explore new stores and loves going out to eat at her favorite restaurants. Recently, she visited the arcade at the local mall and tried out the racing chair and game. She loved racing a car and had a lot of fun. She played until she ran out of money for the game!

After a good day of games, she stopped at her favorite restaurant for a well-earned treat before going home to listen to music. Speaking of music, Michelle also loves visiting Bull Moose music. The staff there are so helpful and help her pick out new music that she can play in her portable CD Player.

Glen's Spring Trip

Glen Wilder & Robin DeRose, Direct Support Professional
Keene, NH

Glen and Robin took a trip with a group from the Senior Center to the Belknap Mill Museum in Laconia, New Hampshire. It is a fascinating destination that offers a rich blend of history, art, and education. Built in 1823, the Belknap Mill is the oldest unaltered brick textile mill in the United States. It has been transformed into a community and educational center, hosting various events, exhibits, and programs. The museum has a rich history going all the way back to the Civil War. The Mill used to make socks or stockings as they were called back then for the union troops. The stockings were made of wool. They used wool because it was warm, breathable and dried quickly. That prevented issues with bacteria and fungus. Glen was most interested in all the mechanical things big or small, when he was a young boy, he worked with his uncle fixing small appliances and mechanical machines. Glen remarked on how the gear worked, the water wheel at the mill is the biggest he has even seen. The gears were about 6 feet across turning the 30ft high water wheel. Glen was enjoyed the trip to the museum.

Staying Busy This Winter

Chelsea Tremblay, Quality Assurance Coordinator
Plattsburgh, NY

Shannon had an incredible winter with the special Olympics, diving into snowshoeing and bowling. Snowshoeing has become a true passion for her, and her hard work paid off when she traveled all the way to Glens Falls to compete. She proudly earned 3rd place and a well-deserved medal! This picture captures how proud she is of herself, and it’s a beautiful reminder of the importance of trying new things, pushing through challenges, and never giving up.

Shannon has also been volunteering a lot of her time to help others, whether it’s baking for residents at an assisted living facility or helping clean a carousel downtown she is always looking to bring happiness to others.

At the assisted living facility, she spends her time baking delicious treats for the residents, always with the hope of making someone smile. For many residents, this small act of kindness can bring back fond memories and help brighten their day.

She also spends time at the carousel which is known as an iconic spot where families can gather to enjoy the ride and the surrounding park. As a volunteer, she helps keep this business charming and attracts more visitors in the community.

Shannon knows that small acts of service can make a lasting difference, creating a ripple like effect of kindness within her community. Keep shining, Shannon!

Birthday Surprise

Lisa Turner, Associate Director
Londonderry, NH

Brenda celebrated a milestone birthday this year! She was so excited to celebrate with gifts and cake. She picked out a dazzling heart outfit, which was very fitting for her February birthday.

What she didn’t know was that her family was waiting for her at one of her favorite Chinese food restaurants for dinner! She had no idea! It was quite a surprise, and Brenda was beyond thrilled. Her family showered her with love and more gifts! She enjoyed spending time with her baby nieces and nephew, whom she absolutely adores. The night was filled with lots of laughs and good food.

Brenda loves to celebrate just about anything. But when it came to her big milestone birthday, it was even more special and fun. Her family and people closest to her got to help her start her next year off right, celebrating the night away. Until next year, Happy Birthday, Brenda!

With the good weather finally here, David has enjoyed watching the planes come and go while eating his lunch at the picnic tables. Whether you're a local resident or a visitor exploring the area, it's an ideal spot to unwind.

The Adventures of Tim & Tammy

Kristen Petersen, Director of Shared Living
Westbrook, ME

I had the pleasure of enjoying a great lunch with Tim and Tammy at The Woodshed in Manchester, Maine, recently. Tim lives with Tammy and together they travel all over and have some of the best adventures together, and with their friends. Tim was excited to share photos with me from some of his adventures.

The Woodshed is Home of The Cabin Masters from the show on Magnolia network, although sadly the stars were not available for lunch the day we were there! Tim has met them all and loves sporting some apparel that he has purchased at their store. During lunch we looked at pictures from some of the amazing adventures that he and Tammy have had over the past year. It was too cold to sit outside this time, but Tim shared a few photos from a lunch we shared at The Woodshed last year.

Tim is excited about spring because that means it is getting closer to when he and Tammy can take rides in the 1923 Ford T-Bucket. Tim and Tammy have entered the car in a car show being held at the Midcoast School of Technology in May. Tim wanted to be sure I included some photos of the car. In one, he can be seen explaining the car to someone at the show last year.

In addition to several restaurants that Tim, Tammy, and their friends frequent, they also have enjoyed several opportunities to explore some of the big ships in the harbor and things like the Lobster Festival and the Snow Bowl, to name a few. Tim and Tammy are happiest when they are enjoying time and experiences with their friends.

Beachy Keen

Ricky Berry, Associate Director
Londonderry, NH

Many weekends the beach is a target destination for Troy and his friends or family. Known for his outgoing personality and infectious smile, Troy is the kind of guy who instantly lifts the mood wherever he goes. Whether he’s organizing a seashell search, or chatting up fellow beachgoers like old friends, Troy brings a sort of spirit that turns an ordinary day into something a little more fun. His enthusiasm is contagious, and even strangers find themselves caught up in the wave of fun.

Troy’s love for the beach can be traced back to family traditions. Growing up near the coast, he spent many days hanging out and walking along the coast as often as he could. Now, he still enjoys sharing his love of the ocean with his housemates and anyone who accompanies him to his favorite beaches. From brisk winter days, to warm summer afternoons, any time spent at the beach is a sun-sational day for Troy.

While the beach is his usual destination, it’s the quality time that he spends with his friends and family that really matters to him. He believes in being present, soaking up the sun, and shell-abrating the joy of being able to watch the surf come in. For Troy, these seaside days are more than just a getaway; they're a way of life, a tradition of love, connection, and making the most of every moment. So, take a moment to enjoy life and the simple pleasures like Troy does, and seas the day as often as you can!

3D Printing Chicken Wings: Because Why Not?

Alyssa Burdo, Fiscal Intermediary Coordinator
Plattsburgh, NY

I’m sure by now you have heard of 3D Printers. Ever wonder if you could print your favorite snack in 3D? Well Daniel did, and thanks to what he learned in Game-U Digital Design classes, he decided to take on the challenge of all time, creating 3D-printed chicken wings!

Using the skills he learned at Game-U, he fired up his 3D modeling software and crafted a digital masterpiece – beautifully detailed chicken wings!

Daniel is quite the prankster, so he was so excited to trick people he knew into thinking the chicken wings were real and edible. He even went as far as putting them in a paperboard food tray like you see in restaurants. This really sold the idea of them being real and tricked a few people!

Besides enjoying his 3D printer, Daniel has also been taking guitar lessons for months and is also learning how to read sheet music. He has been enjoying playing guitar for people alongside his instructor, Anthony, at special events.

Daniel’s loves some good fun and making people laugh. He also enjoys making TikTok videos, so if you get the chance, check him out.
